Why the USVIs are the perfect “first trip” post-lockdown:
✈️ Easy to reach—we took a direct 2.5-hour flight from MIA to STX
🇺🇸 You’re still on US soil, so no passport required
🌡 Very few cases of COVID-19
🧼 Strict cleaning / social distancing protocols, plus temperature scans and luggage sanitization upon arrival
😷 Island-wide policy of no mask = no service (doesn’t apply in the ocean or pool)
💵 Affordable prices—basically the same as the mainland (but cocktails are cheap! $8-12 was the range we paid)
🏝 Chill, easygoing island getaway with lots to do and the friendliest locals—as an American, the standard greeting you’ll hear is “Welcome home” 💙

My mind is 🤯 blown that this is the US—domestic travel doesn’t have to mean road trips! (Thank God, cause y’all KNOW how I feel about road trips 😂)

We try to spend our anniversary in a different country every year. Things weren’t looking good for this year, but when the USVIs announced they were reopening June 1, we knew we had to make it happen. (Yes, I soon realized the USVIs are US soil and thus don’t count as a different country 🤣 and as I looked back, I realized we haven’t done so well in previous years either 🤦🏼‍♀️ but you get the drift)

Year 1 (2015): Santorini, Greece
Year 2 (2016): The Breakers, Palm Beach, FL
Year 3 (2017): Santa Barbara, CA
Year 4 (2018): The Colony, Palm Beach, FL
Year 5 (2019): Anzère, Switzerland
Year 6 (2020): St. Croix, USVIs

(Also you can kinda tell which years we weren’t getting along well enough to take a picture together... 2017 and 2018 were rough 🤣)

A lot of couples gloss over their anniversary, especially as the years roll on. That just doesn’t jive with us. I love anniversaries because they’re a celebration of CHOICE, of doing the hard thing and sticking together NO MATTER WHAT. I didn’t create holidays; I didn’t ask to be born. But our anniversary? That’s sacred to me, because I DID make a conscious, sacrificial, reverent commitment to this man—and, year after year, in sickness and in health, in the rapturous joys and devastating lows and everywhere in between, whether we’re thrilled to be hitched or literally can’t stand each other, we CHOOSE to honor those vows.

I love you, Aaron James, and will keep at it until death do us part. Lord willing, this is just the beginning ❤️ #livethesueño

60+ magazines from the past 2 years paged through (😅 wow it feels good to recycle that stack)
0 makeup
Thousands of words written, hundreds of emails responded to (or not 😬), too many dollars spent on takeout, and an undocumented number of Zoom calls, glasses of wine, evenings on the balcony, minor freak-outs, home-cooked meals, wanderlust reveries, and moments of gratitude 💛 Tomorrow’s a new month, and don’t forget that YOU get to decide how to respond to this “new normal” (I’m going for abs, more time reading, and crossing my fingers about booking an anniversary trip in June?!?)

Gratitude has changed my life. I hate self-help books but somehow got talked into reading The Gratitude Diaries during the first couple days of 2018, and I haven’t seen the world the same way since. The premise is simple: there’s always, always something to be grateful for. You can shift your perspective on any situation, however good or bad, to find a redeeming quality or a plus side of some sort. And you can choose to feel thankful for what you do have—starting with the ability to take a deep breath, a long walk, a hot shower—rather than stew on what you don’t. So here’s a lil reminder that your FEELINGS come from your ACTIONS—like deliberately choosing gratitude, or squeezing in a run 👆🏼, or sautéing yourself a medley of veggies for dinner, or putting down your phone and picking up a book. The sooner you accept that it’s not the other way around, the happier you’ll be 🌞 Here’s to a new week, people—make it count!

HAMILTON WEST PALM BEACH IS FINALLY HEREEEE! 🌟 We waited a long time to see this show because we wanted to see it at our home theater, the @kraviscenter—and it was SO MUCH better than either of us had imagined 🙌🏼 Here’s a peek at our lovely evening at the theater seeing this long-awaited show 🥂 I went in totally blind, knowing nothing about the show except that it‘s been a worldwide sensation for several years now—“America then, as told by America now” 🇺🇸 And let me just say: the hype is real and SOMEONE REALLY SHOULD HAVE WARNED ME IT’S A TEAR-JERKER (seriously, come prepped with tissues) 😭 It’s still on my mind nearly a week later—a beautiful story, a fresh work of performance art with a script that blew my mind. @hamiltonmusical is at the Kravis through February 16—enter the lottery for your chance to grab $10 tickets! 🎟🎭🎼

OFF THE GRID 🦎🇧🇷 We’re in Brazil, heading out this morning on the M/Y Tucano (behind us) for an off-the-grid expedition into the Amazon... deeper into the rainforest, in fact, than any other tour goes! 😱 (I didn’t know this when I signed up 🤣) Wish us luck among the anacondas (and caimans, poison frogs, harpy eagles, jaguars, etc.) ... 😅

Having your best friends spread across the country really sucks, except when you get an assignment to one of their hometowns ❤️ Thanks for showing me around your stomping grounds this weekend @hannah.spargo—still wish you’d move to Florida so we could share cocktails + belly laughs + clothes + knowing looks + all the sass on a daily basis, but let’s be real, the world (and @aaronjnosbisch) probably couldn’t handle it. 😂 Miss you and Charlotte already!
